Just got back from a quick trip to Seoul with a couple friends. I didn't have any preconceptions about Seoul, and we were pleasantly surprised by the design-rich, friendly, and overall quite lovely city. We wandered through the lively markets, spent some time appreciating traditional crafts in Bukchon Hanok Village, and visited a handful of the several beautiful temples and palaces.
We took a day trip to the De-Militarized Zone (DMZ) to catch a glimpse of North Korea. We may look carefree in the photos, but the tension between the two countries was noticeable at the border. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some North Korean women in traditional dress outside the guarded buildings. The American soldiers told us they had never seen anything like that before, so perhaps it was a rare chance to see a bit of North Korean culture.
Ended the trip with a delicious Italian dinner at the Seoul Tower. I highly recommend a visit to Seoul!
